How to Use BMW's Pedestrian Detection System [Video]
However, the two systems are different because they're using different cameras. Whereas the Night Vision system uses an infrared camera positioned to the front of the car, the Pedestrian Warning system that works during the day uses a standard camera but will also apply brakes in case of an emergency, to avoid collisions.
The Pedestrian Warning system is turned on by default so, in order to disable it, you'll have to do it manually, using the iDrive menu. However, after a vehicle sleep cycle, the feature will be automatically turned on again, once you start your car.
Reaching the Pedestrian Detection feature on the iDrive screen is easy, and can be done by pressing a button on the left side of the steering wheel, under the lights commuter (more details in the video).
Once inside the Intelligent Safety menu, if the system is active, you'll see a check mark next to its icon. The Night Vision system doesn't need the Pedestrian Detection function to be activated, in order to work.
In order to get the camera feed on your car's navigation screen, all you have to do is press the button with the road and the tiny moon, located under the lights switch, to the left of the steering wheel.
