BMW to Debut in North American DTM in 2015

The goal of this agreement is to create the equivalent of a North American version of DTM (yes, we know it sounds a bit odd). This way, the American public will get the chance to see German, Japanese and American cars going head to head without having to leave the country.
Discussions with the DTM and Japanese manufacturers will follow this first step, if this endeavor is to become reality. The North American DTM will feature cars from BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz (that are already involved in the DTM championship), Nissan Honda and Toyota (that compete in the Super GT championship) but also Cadillac, Lincoln or Dodge.
"BMW welcomes the planned cooperation between DTM and GRAND-AM/IMSA. It represents another important step on the way to the internationalization of DTM. We as BMW are extremely open-minded, regarding these plans. BMW has got a great motor-racing tradition in the USA and therefore, we are truly happy about the prospect to also see DTM vehicles racing in the USA, in the future,” said Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director about the new project.
The new series could begin in 2015, the earliest, as part of United SportsCar Racing weekend events.
