BMW i8 Prototype Test Drive by Edmunds

To address some of this thirst for knowledge and performance, BMW called a couple of journalists up in France to allow them to take a drive in their i8, even though the car is still in prototype shape, including the guys from Edmunds.com.
Out of all the reviews of this car (in the current form), this one takes the cake (excluding the exclusive video taken inside the i8, shown earlier). It is well written and filled with interesting details, sparing us from the dull technical info.
The i8, with its butterfly doors, is a tough car to get into. Doing it with some amount of grace will require some practice. You're actually going down once you're inside it, despite calling the action 'getting in'.
The driving position is low and the seats are big, unexpectedly big for a sports car. The interior is done in typical BMW fashion, boasting with leather and alcantara, even though it was covered with a black cloth the entire time.
The elephant in the room is the engine size. 1.5-liters doesn't sound like much for a car taking on the Porsche Carrera 4S but with the other 2 electric motors, it does a magnificent job.
The i8 is fast but you don't feel it. It gives you a sensation close to the one you get inside the M6: unless you look at the speedo, you don't really know how fast you're traveling. The engine sound doesn't help neither. The B38 unit sounds remarkably well for a 3-cylinder but it still lacks that V8 tune that it will probably never have.
Coming out next year, the i8 will surely be a hit, especially due to its fuel consumption, introducing a new era in the sports cars segment.
