BMW F30 320i Takes to the Track at Edmunds
The latest car to undergo such a treatment was the BMW F30 320i model. Fitted with a 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that develops 184 HP and 200 lb-ft of torque and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, the car is the cheapest in the US line-up of 3ers at the moment.
It's price tag comes at $33,475, $4,000 cheaper than the 328i model. It also returns better fuel consumption with 28 mpg compared to the 328i's 26 (not a huge difference though).
So, how does it fair on the track? The car is pretty good and does exactly what you need from it. Turbo lag is completely gone, the engine is very responsive and the gearbox… well, what hasn't been already said about that majestic ZF unit?
On the slalom, the car is well balanced and competent while the brakes handle everything you throw at them with ease. The throttle is very responsive and the weight transfer is done flawlessly.
