BMW F30 320i Review by Car Advice
The entry-level BMW 3 Series is the 316i but the most popular choice over there is the 320i by far. That's because it comes fitted with the 2-liter turbocharged N20 engine that delivers 184 HP and 270 Nm of torque, the perfect amount for any normal driver.
Car Advice found it very versatile, especially in conjunction with the flawless 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. However, without the adaptive dampers and the variable steering feature the car feels a bit slow and not as sporty as you'd expect from a Bimmer.
Otherwise, the driving modes are pretty useful. You can pick between Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ and each changes the car accordingly. In Eco Pro, the car will upshift quickly to save gas whilst in Sport+ all of that is gone and every little touch sends the car in an angry twitch.
There were also some things they'd rather miss out on, like the run flat tires that are actually taking away some of the driving pleasure but for each problem you'll find an easy solution if you want to.
In the end, no matter how bad they complained about the car and what faults they found, the 3er was still declared better than its competitor from Mercedes-Benz (the C200) and Lexus.
