BMW-Brilliance Zinoro 1E Makes World Debut at the 2013 Guangzhou Auto Show

A while back we told you that our spy photographers caught up with an X1 that lacked the traditional tailpipes at the back and we speculated that the Germans might be working on an electric version of the crossover.

As it turned out, that model was the car that this week was launched at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China under the Zinoro brand as the 1E. The Zinoro brand, as you might’ve read on our blog is the result of the BMW-Brilliance collaboration in China.

The cars wearing this badge will be sold only in the communist country and all of them will be electric. The 1E will be using an electric motor that makes 170 HP and 250 Nm (186 lb-ft) of torque, the same from the i3 and i8 cars.

However, the batteries are different, built by a Chinese company called Ningde Times New Energy Technology instead of Siemens in collaboration with Samsung.

The car’s top speed is 130 km/h (81 mph) and the autonomy is estimated at an optimistic 100 miles (160 km), because of its hefty weight (1,970 kg or 4,343 lbs).

Of course, all the cars made under the Zinoro brand will be cheaper than their BMW forefathers and will try to help out in reducing the smog that’s accumulating over huge cities in China, a problem that is literally starting to suffocate people.
