BMW 335i Pitted Against Cadillac ATS 3.6 and Mercedes-Benz C350 by MotorTrend [Video]
text size: A- A+
Of the three cars tested, the 335i has the smallest engine, delivers about the same amount of power and is the fastest. That says a lot about this car. The others have 3.6-liter and 3.5-liter engines and still don't manage to keep up because of the lack of turbocharging.
In the interior department, we'll find the new iDrive system. We know, at the beginning it was awful, having a lot of shortcomings which led a lot of people to complaine about how hard it was to use it. Not anymore. Even Jonny Lieberman of MotorTrend had to admit it has been radically improved. It is better than the Merc's Command system and the ATS's CUE, which is awful and possible even dangerous to use while driving.
During the final stages of the review, Jonny takes the cars out on the road. We couldn't help but notice his bias attitude while testing. It seems, in his opinion, that the BMW lost some of its vulgarity and character while on the road. We should all just remember, though, that the days of hooliganism have ended and, today, the market asks for totally different car characteristics.
Finally, even MotorTrend's own had to admit that BMW had the best transmission and engine and that the only difference that actually made the Caddy no. 1 was the way it felt on the road, something that is actually dependent on personal taste.
