If the valve is defective, a small amount of lubricating oil might leak and contaminate the brake booster. In this case, a loss of brake power assist might occur, which, in conjunction with different traffic conditions (like the state of the road, driver's reaction, etc.) might increase the risk of a crash and property or even personal injury.
In order to stop this from happening, the 3,912 BMW SUVs, manufactured between 2007 and 2010, will be recalled to check, and if needed replace, the brake booster and master cylinder. In some cases the replacement of the brake vacuum line might be necessary to eliminate the possibility of oil reaching the brake booster.
