2014 BMW M3/M4 Engine Secrets Revealed [Video]
The tightening EU regulations about CO2 emissions forced the M division to go from a V8 to an inline 6-cylinder engine with turbocharging. That was a problem for purists but the end result might surprise everyone though.
As we previously reported, the S55 unit will develop around 430 HP (just 10 more than the S65 unit) and 'well over' 370 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. That, combined with a kerb weight of just under 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs) should provide plenty of thrills, even for the most pretentious BMW fans out there.
Introducing this engine had to be done the right way, so BMW put together a couple of illustrations we already saw and a video of the new car, explaining exactly what's been improved and what's new about the new 3-liter engine and you can watch it below.
