1000 HP BMW E34 M5 Showdown [Video]
text size: A- A+
Yes, we know, 1000 HP seems a lot for a car built between 1989 and 1995 and it is. The first generation standard E34 M5 had a straight-6 cylinder 3.6-liter engine that developed 315 HP, almost 3 times less than what these cars have.
Later on, a 3.8-liter S38B38 engine was fitted on the E34 M5 and this one had 340 HP, still way less than what we're discussing here.
We're not really sure how these cars got to such impressive numbers but we can assume that massive turbos and intercoolers were involved.
Overall, the most interesting thing you can notice in this video is how you can lose a race because of a bad gearshift. The driver of the red M5 misses the 3rd to 4th gear shift and almost loses the race, even though it had an impressive lead over the other Bimmer.
